I always wondered: Why do we have a culture that makes it “weird” to say goodbye?
I feel like we focus on the singular moment of goodbye and how it makes us feel “bad” or “sad” versus thinking about all the good memories that we had before the singular moment.
On top of that, we make it awkward to say bye. It could be as small as a phone call or as big as a departure from a job. We just don’t want to say it. Is it because we want to hold onto the moment as long as we can? Is it because we are scared of what someone will say?
What are some alternatives? Silence? Until next time?
I recently had to say goodbye to a job and it was bittersweet. I struggled on when is the right time to send the email. Do you send it on your last day? Do you send it a few days before?
Well, I guess I still need practice. I want good-bye to be a happy feeling and exciting!
